Removing the related videos at the end of a YouTube video

The easiest and fastest way to get a video onto your web site or blog is to upload it to YouTube and stream it from there. But you may have noticed that when the video ends, it shows related videos, some of which could be your competitor! But there is a trick that you can use to avoid that. Here is how you do it.

Go to the YouTube video that you want and click the button that says Embed. When you do that, the HTML embed code pops up. But before you copy the code to paste into your page or blog, uncheck the box that says Include Related Videos. Then paste that code in normally. That way, when the your video ends on your page, it will not display any related videos.

How to use YouTube to promote your business

YouTube is a site that allows you to upload videos for free. They make their money from advertising revenues. If you look at it the other way around, you are providing them with free video content. So, it's a good relationship and one that I encourage for my clients.

Before you start recording videos with your web cam or your digital camera, please stop! Yes, YouTube is a wonderful place for amateur videos of dogs and babies, but that is not how you want your business to be represented. On the other hand, a video on YouTube isn't the same thing as the old boring promotional videos of yesterday. Good production values are nice, but a long introduction isn't the way to go. YouTube isn't a movie theater, or a business meeting room and people don't need time to settle down. On YouTube, if your video doesn't start giving good information in the first few seconds, people will click away.

If you want to know how to do it right, take a look at my client motivational speaker Joel Weldon. This is how you do it.

Putting a video on your Google Blog

If you have videos uploaded to YouTube, you can put them here on Google Blogger. To do this, go to your video on YouTube and look for a button that says "embed". When you select that button, the embed code is revealed, which is HTML. Copy that, and in your Blogger post, click on "Edit HTML", which is at the upper right, in the tab next to "Compose".
Copy the embed code and in your Blogger post, click on "Edit HTML" in the upper right, next to "Compose" and paste it in. Return to compose, publish your post, and you now have a video right in your post. Here I am drawing caricatures. Video by Bryan Matuskey.

Voting up comments on YouTube

The next time you are watching a YouTube video, be sure to sign in and "vote up" a comment that you like. I've just noticed this feature, and it brings useful and thoughtful comments up to the top, instead of the rude and hateful comments that we have been suffering looking at for years. I haven't had the opportunity to "vote down" a rude, crude or racist remark on YouTube, but I will. I have been "voting up" good comments. To do this, all you have to do is to click the little "thumbs up button" next to the comment.

Most people appreciate the effort that goes into posting a video on YouTube, and don't see it as an appropriate place for obscene comments. The obscene comments are not removed, they are just moved down.

A great idea from YouTube!
