Ah, Sex & religion, did you ever think the two worlds would collide? Sex may be a taboo subject in some religions – but we all have the urges.
Apparently Hasidic Jews have a sex life, and might even want to spice it up with a few toys. At least that’s the premise behind KosherSexToys.net. Announced as the world’s only Kosher sex toy website, the site’s creator developed the site so that Orthodox Jews could spice up their sex life without running afoul of their religious scriptures.
Upon visiting the site, the Spartan design is intentional. To remain Kosher, the site is devoid of any erotic imagery and product descriptions are entirely clinical. The site claims that nothing on the site will cause you to blush. Orthodox Jews believe that only two people, who are married (to each other), should be involved in any bedroom cardio activities and that even a little porn is a clear violation of that commandment. Obviously I’d fail the kosher test.
After a bit of research online, I also discovered a Halal sex shop. El Asira is segregated into a men and women’s section and upon investigating the site; I discovered it’s more than just a little tame. It follows a similar credo as KosherSexToys. There aren’t any pictures of men or women on the site, and near as I can tell there aren’t any sex toys. A variety of lube, aphrodisiacs and romantic items are available, but dildos, handcuffs, and vibrators are all absent. According to the La Times, the site opened in early 2010 and has been a huge success in the Arab world. Notice how I’m not living in the Arab world.
Then of course I discovered veganerotica.com. A site developed for the horny vegan. Containing a variety of pleather whips, collars, and other apparel perfect for the PETA crowd. The site even claims to have a selection of vegan condoms, but I couldn’t find them, besides I’m not sure what makes a condom non-vegan to begin with.
Some beliefs are just a bit too extreme for me. Staring at a nice firm ass or a busty pair of tits while using the dried skin from a dead cow to do NSFW unmentionables doesn’t violate any creeds that I live by, but for those that it does, they needn’t be left out in the barren wastelands of vanilla sex. Sex is for everyone, even those out on the fringe.
